Mas nem mesmo os mais conservadores poderão deixar de reconhecer a excelência deste álbum, onde Ahmad Jamal, no melhor de sua forma, dosa bons momentos de jazz com "easy listening", tudo com o adorno das vozes do Choral de Howard A. Roberts.

"Sounds cheesy -- but this is a pretty wonderful album, the kind that really gets at the dark genius of Jamal! Ahmad's trio with Frank Gant and Jamil Sulieman is joined by the Howard A Roberts Chorale, set to arrangements by Jamal and Joe Kennedy that create these dreamy pillows of sound, pushing the voices forward like piles of feathers, supporting Ahmad's lines on piano with amazing subtlety, evoking a really moody late night sound. Richard Evans produced, and the whole thing has that sophisticated groove of the best late 60s Cadet work. Titles include "Never Let Me Go", "Wild Is The Wind", "Yesterdays", "Of Bass I Love", and "By Myself".

MINHA OPINIÃO
Muita gente acha que ele é "músico de coquetel". Ledo engano: Ahmad Jamal, para quem não sabe, foi uma das maiores influências de ninguém menos que MILES DAVIS. Se você me perguntar se ele é um dos meus pianisitas preferidos, a resposta é NÃO. Mas é inegável que AJ acabou descobrindo um jeito de dosar, com equilibrio e muita qualidade, jazz e "easy listening", numa fase de sua carreira. Acabou ficando marcado por isso e rotulado como pianista de festas, o que não é justo. Neste álbum, além de grandes  improvisos, extraordinariamente bem construídos, Ahmad Jamal exibe uma nem sempre explorada faceta do seu talento: a de grande harmonizador. Vejam, por exemplo, o que ele faz com a harmonia de "Never let me go". Além disso, como compositor, nos brinda com uma belíssima e complexa "Ballad for Beverly". As vozes do coral de Howard A. Roberts (*) emolduram com simplicidade e eficiência os solos de A.J. e seu trio. Um belo álbum, sem dúvida.
