THE AMES BROTHERS - outro conjunto vocal americano da década de 50, com bastante apela comercial. Seu repertório, em geral, era de músicas "passageiras", daquelas que evaporam logo depois do sucesso. Os AMES BROTHERS foram competentes mas jogavam ali na "segunda divisão", ao lado dos Four Lads, Four Aces e outroos, sem chegar perto - em termos de qualidade, dos Hi-lo's e Four Freshmen. Mas, como todos os conjuntos vocais americanos, desempenham sua tarefa corretamente. (Na verdade, até hoje nunca
ouvi um conjunto vocal americano ruim, daquela época).

THE AMES BROTHERS - The Ames Brothers were a singing quartet from Malden, Massachusetts, who were particularly famous in the 1950s. The Ames Brothers got their beginning in Malden, where all four were born. The act consisted of Joe, Gene, Vic and Ed. Their parents were Russian Jewish immigrants from the Ukraine. The brothers formed a quartet with a cousin Lennie, and had been touring United States Army and Navy bases entertaining the troops and were offered a job at the Foxs and Hounds nightclub, one of the fanciest clubs in Boston. At the time, they were going by the name of the Amory Brothers, a name taken from Vic's middle name. Taking their act to New York they got a job with bandleader Art Mooney. The name Amory was shortened to Ames. They were swept into national top billing with their first hit record, "Rag Mop," in January, 1950. Doing radio shows for free at times just for the experience, they later became regulars on such shows as The Arthur Godfrey Hour. One of the first acts to appear on the original Ed Sullivan Show when it was known as Toast of the Town, they made their debut with him when the show was telecast live from Wanamaker's Department Store. Soon, they were the top paid group in nightclubs and supperclubs everywhere and their popularity on television was nationwide. In 1956 they starred in their own show, The Ames Brothers Show, which was seen on Friday nights. Over their fifteen year career, their prolific work notched up 50 U.S. chart entries, 21 of them on the Coral label before signing with RCA Victor. The group disbanded in the 1960s but Ed Ames went on with a successful singing and acting career. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998.

ESQUIVEL
Juan García Esquivel (January 20, 1918 – January 3, 2002) often known as simply Esquivel!, was a Mexican band leader, pianist, and film score composer. He's known today mostly for creating unique jazz and lounge music. He was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, and his family moved to Mexico City in 1928. Esquivel is considered the king of a style of late 1950s-early 1960s quirky instrumental pop or lounge music.
Esquivel's musical style is highly idiosyncratic, and although elements sound like his contemporaries, he has many stylistic tics that distinguish his music and make it instantly recognizable, including exotic percussion, wordless vocals, virtuoso piano runs, and exaggerated dynamic shifts in volume. He uses many jazz-like elements, but other than his piano solos, there is no improvisation and the works are tightly, meticulously, even perfectionistically arranged by Esquivel himself. His orchestration tends toward the very lush.

MINHA OPINIÃO - este raro álbum reune as vozes corretas dos AMES BROTHERS à orquestra de ESQUIVEL, notório por seus arranjos cheios de detalhes, "firulas", peripécias em excesso e nem sempre de bom tom - para o meu gosto. O repertório é o que há de melhor na música mexicana, e de quebra "Brasil" e "Lisbon Antigua"; o " horrible accent" dos Ames Brothers - melhor dizendo - sua hilariante pronúncia mexicana dá um toque de (bom) humor, num álbum curioso.
